Background

I worked on a dating app designed to enhance the dating experiences for its users during my time at A Round Ent. I contributed to crafting solutions that bridged the gap between existing challenges and potential opportunities.

I joined a team of engineers and designers to dive into this project where I worked on wireframes and prototypes.

Enhanced User Interface: For the dating preferences page, I developed high-fidelity wireframes introducing user-centric features such as:

  • Confirmation notifications.
  • Streamlined checkbox system for improved usability.
  • Inclusive textboxes for political, gender, and sexual identity expressions.

Design Standards:

I created cohesive design standards across the settings pages and preference pages, ensuring a consistent and intuitive user experience for both premium and non-premium members.

I applied these design standards to the user's setting page.

I designed the pages for the users to see who has liked them, while focusing on clear, engaging user navigation and interaction.

Innovative Technical Solutions: We faced a technical snag in photo uploads, I proposed solutions that combated that issue via mid fidelity wireframes. Eventually, we were able to maintain the intended drag-and-drop functionality.

Reflecting on Opportunities for Improvement

There are key areas for improvement that I had suggested, but unfortunately there were time constraints and expectations set by the CEO that we couldn’t bypass. I believe the following points could have significantly enhance the project's outcome.

  • Deep Dive into User Research: Given the opportunity to participate in the early research phase, I would prioritize understanding the core needs and frustrations of our target users. My observation is that our project could have benefited greatly from a more in-depth analysis of user expectations and the specific pain points encountered with existing dating apps. This insight is crucial for pinpointing both the problem and its solution, which would have provided the app higher success rates.
  • Navigating Early-Stage Product Development: As this project was one of the CEO's initial projects within the tech industry, we were collectively navigating the complexities of product development in real-time. The challenge of establishing a clear, unbiased direction was compounded by a foundational gap in research. If I had no constraints, I would advocate for the development of a comprehensive research plan and a compelling proposal for the product. This document would outline strategic investment areas for the CEO/CFO, emphasizing unique values that could distinguish our app in a crowded marketplace.
